Spring Season Update: March 31st (Recreation Players)

Good Afternoon JYS Families,

It feels like a lot has happened since my last update on March 16th, but one thing that hasn't changed is the intent to get our players out on the fields as soon as possible.

I wanted to share the latest update we have received from New Jersey Youth Soccer:

"Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the communication from our local, state and federal government about social distancing, NJ Youth Soccer is extending its suspension of all affiliated and sanctioned soccer activities statewide. Our primary focus continues to be the safety and welfare of our players, coaches, referees and communities.

For our member organizations (towns, clubs and leagues), this suspension includes, but is not limited to, all in-person events (e.g. practices, training, scrimmages, clinics, tryouts, games and tournaments). As a result of this suspension, in-person team and club activities during this time will not be sanctioned and, therefore, will not be covered by NJ Youth Soccer insurances. For the State Office, this suspension includes our in-person programming (e.g., ODP, State Cups and Coaching Education Courses).

NJ Youth Soccer is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, in particularly the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state regulations and federal guidelines. We also remain in close contact with US Soccer, US Youth Soccer and other State Associations.

We will continue to keep our membership updated on the evolving COVID-19 situation accordingly, and a further advisory from NJ Youth Soccer can be expected by Thursday, April 30th."

Our Recreation Season was not set to commence until April 15th, so with the timeframe noted above it is too early to make any decisions regarding cancellations. We remain hopeful that our players will be able to participate in some kind of soccer season, in whatever form that may take.

In the meantime, check out some of these links so that your players can practice and improve on some key skills:

1. Sign Up Here to receive New York Red Bulls "Train @ Home" Updates

2. Download a "Soccer Skills Bingo Sheet"

3. Watch some drills on YouTube, then recreate them at home

Also please remember that ALL township fields and facilities are CLOSED.

We will send another update as soon as New Jersey Youth Soccer communicates any changes to us.

Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.

We hope that everyone is safe and well!

Thank you

Helen Barlow
